Betfair ATM System Review

Betfair ATM - Cash Dispenser or Cash Destroyer?

Betfair ATM is a system/method for in play betting on Betfair on the place markets.    ATM is supplied as a pdf document that gives guidelines and suggestions on how and when to place the bets. Currently Betfair ATM is available as a pdf download at a cost of £87.

The author suggests that the best results will be obtained on the NH or flat races of over one mile in the UK.  Betfair ATM is best used on races with less than 12 runners and ones that have a  a clear favourite.

The races should be monitored from the start until the bets are places. The author does not like any audio or visual on the races and only monitors the odds movement. This is not how I prefer to bet in running and will be watching the races. It is necessary to monitor the win odds on one screen/page and the place markets on another.

All the bets that are placed will be in the range 1.30-1.80 depending on the odds when the bet is matched. This means that every individual will have different results depending on the speed of their set up. Past Betfair ATM results indicate that a strike rate 80% can be obtained with practice. There are some suggestions to run a stop loss during the race but I will run the method as win bets only.

It is necessary to input the bets using “one click” software as the odds in play betting move very quick and the Betfair interface is to slow. There are several products that allow this, some are free and some require a fee to be paid. Most of them can be tried on a free trial, with my choice being Betting Assistant  (Gruss).

Betfair ATM will be used over a period of 45 days and starting with a bank of 100 points and using a stake of 5 point/race.

The target will be to obtain 1.5-2.0 points/day using 4-6 races.

——— Detailed Betfair ATM System Review Results ———

Day 1 – Betfair ATM – 25/03/11

6 races wagered in with 5 winning bets and 1 losing bet.

P/L of 1.34 points

Bank = 101.34 points.

————————————————————————————————-

Day 2 – Betfair ATM – 26/03/11

8 races wagered in with 7 winning bets and 1 losing bet. Would have had won the first six races but had a faller at the last.Stopped after eight races. Saturdays are difficult because of the overlapping races especially if they do not get away on time

P/L of 2.42 points

Bank = 103.76 points.

————————————————————————————————

Day 3 – Betfair ATM – 27/03/11

Today had two NH meetings, with one having nearly all races with small fields or a very short price favourite. The second meeting had races with more runners  but the betting appeared to show that very few runners had a winning chance. Made the two points profit and stopped betting. 5 races wagered in with 5 winning bets.

P/L of 2.12 points

Bank = 105.88 points.

———————————————————————————————–

Day 4 – Betfair ATM – 28/03/11

Very poor racing today, small fields and short price favourites. Bet on four races and had four wins for a small profit.

P/L of 1.52 points

Bank = 107.40 points.

———————————————————————————————–

Day 5 – Betfair ATM – 29/03/11

Again very poor racing today, some very small fields and short price favourites. Bet on four races and had four wins for a small profit.

P/L of 1.60 points

Bank = 109.00 points.

———————————————————————————————-

Day 6 – Betfair ATM – 30/03/11

Mixture of flat and NH racing. Bet on five afternoon races races and had five wins for more than the target profit. Had a look at the evening racing at Wolverhampton but only two races would have met the rules. In running one of the favourites price dropped below 1.3 but placed and the other would have lost.

P/L of 2.86 points

Bank = 111.86 points.

———————————————————————————————–

Day 7 – Betfair ATM – 31/03/11

Mixture of flat and NH racing. Bet on two afternoon races races and two evening races for a small profit. Only one of the afternoon races will count towards the trial as I had a freak result on the second race. As I placed the bet the horse made a mistake at a hurdle and the price went flying out and a match was made at 6.0 and just as quickly when it was obvious that it had not fallen the price came back to odds on. I monitored several other races but none met the rules.

P/L of 1.56 points

Bank = 113.42 points.

————————————————————————————————-

Day 8 – Betfair ATM – 01/04/11

Bet on four afternoon races races and one evening race for a profit. I monitored several other races but none met the rules.The prices did not come into the betting range.

P/L of 2.44 points

Bank = 115.86 points.

————————————————————————————————-

Day 9 – Betfair ATM – 02/04/11

Bet on five races and had five winning bets , all odds on to give the target of +2 points. The races were spaced out over 2-3 hours.

P/L of 2.22 points

Bank = 118.08  points.

————————————————————————————————

Day 10 – Betfair ATM – 03/04/11

Managed to bet on only three races today and had three winning bets for a small profit.

After 10 days we have had :-

48 races with 46 wins & only 2 losing races, with an average profit of  approx.  0.40 points/ race.

To obtain our target profit of 2 points/day it will require 5-6 races/day.

P/L of 1.35 points

Bank = 119.43  points.

———————————————————————————————-

Day 11 – Betfair ATM – 04/04/11

Bet on only three races and had three winning bets. Poor racing today with most of the potential races not meeting the in play odds.

P/L of 1.05 points

Bank = 120.48  points.

———————————————————————————————–

Day 12 – Betfair ATM – 05/04/11

Better race fields today, had five winning bets and completed by 16:00 for an early finish.

P/L of 2.22 points

Bank = 122.70  points.

————————————————————————————————–

Day 13 – Betfair ATM – 06/04/11

Better race fields today, had seven winning bets and one losing bet (touched 1.01 and finished 4th). In one race only 8 runners and 8 non runners the fourth placed horse was placed last because P.Hills forgot to weigh in.

P/L of -2.28 points

Bank = 120.42  points.

——————————————————————————————-

Day 14 – Betfair ATM – 07/04/11

Bet on four races this afternoon and one race in the evening for five winning bets. Four more races almost met the rules in running but the odds went below 1.30.

P/L of  2.56  points

Bank = 122.98  points.

————————————————————————————————

Day 15 – Betfair ATM – 08/04/11

Bet on four races for four winning bets. Connection was slow and had one bet matched @ 1.94, with several bets not matching above 1.30.

P/L of  2.04  points

Bank = 125.02  points.

————————————————————————————————-

Day 16 – Betfair ATM – 09/04/11

Bet on four races for four winning bets. I would be amazed if Betfair does not crash as the prices are flashing all over on the API. Have made the target profit and will now watch the racing.

P/L of  3.56 points

Bank = 128.58  points.

————————————————————————————————-

Day 17 – Betfair ATM – 10/04/11

Bet on five races for five winning bets. Have made the target profit of over 2.0 points by 16:00. I was waiting in two races for the chosen horse to hit the range and in both cases sub 1.1 priced horses fell/brought down and the prices tumbled down.

P/L of  2.53 points

Bank = 131.11 points.

———————————————————————————————–

Day 18 – Betfair ATM – 11/04/11

Poor days racing and only managed to bet on three races for three winning bets.  Again I was waiting in two races for the chosen horse to hit the range and in both cases  horses fell/brought down and the prices tumbled down.

P/L of  1.24 points

Bank = 132.35 points.

————————————————————————————————

Day 19 – Betfair ATM – 12/04/11

Poor days racing with five meetings and only managed to bet on three races for three winning bets.  Ten races had an odds on favourite and over half the races having less than eight runners.

P/L of  1.29 points

Bank = 133.64 points.

———————————————————————————————

Day 20 – Betfair ATM – 13/04/11

Five meetings and only managed to bet on four races for four winning bets and that included the evening meetings. Only made a small profit.

P/L of  1.43 points

Bank = 135.07 points.

———————————————————————————————–

Day 21 – Betfair ATM – 14/04/11

Better racing today with five winning bets from five bets to meet the target.

P/L of  2.56 points

Bank = 137.63 points.

————————————————————————————————

Day 22 – Betfair ATM – 15/04/11

Long days racing today and a losing day, bet on seven races with one loser and six winners. The loser was in second place on the run in at 1.10 and finished fourth.

P/L of  -2.46 points

Bank = 135.17 points.

————————————————————————————————-

Day 23 – Betfair ATM – 16/04/11

Early finish  today , bet on six races with  six winners.

P/L of  2.54 points

Bank = 137.71 points.

————————————————————————————————–

Day 24 – Betfair ATM – 17/04/11

Not many of the races met the rules today and only managed three winning  bets for a small profit.

After 24 Days:- 112 races with 108 winning bets and only 4 losing bets for an average profit of 0.35 points race.

£560 staked @ £5/point for a profit of £195.15. After  commission@ 5% on Betfair.

If using covering bets @1.10 3 of the losing bets would have matched but all of the winning bets would have matched. So  15.0 minus (108 x 1.10 = 10.8) profit of 4.2 points.

As three of the losing bets would have been eliminated, then for this set of results it would have shown a profit but normally I find that you are giving away your profit.

A better way to increase the winning bets is to be more selective in the choice of races.

1. [Post edited by admin to protect system rules]

2. Bet on non handicaps.

3. [Post edited by admin to protect system rules]

4. Do not bet before an obstacle to be jumped or in the last 2f of a race.

5. Do not rush to bet all the races especially on a Saturday.

6. I watch all races that I am betting in but the system author does not believe that this is necessary.

7. Set a target and then stop.

In my opinion Betfair ATM is ideal as a steady income earner but will by limited in the size of bets that can be placed on Betfair. I use this as part of my in running betting and it is time consuming.

P/L of  1.32 points

Bank = 139.03 points.

———————————————————————————————–

Day 25 – Betfair ATM – 18/04/11

Completed the target after the 19:20 @ Windsor, bet on five races with  five winners. Two more races would have won but the price went below 1.30.

P/L of  2.46 points

Bank = 141.49 points.

—————————————————————————————————–

Day 26 – Betfair ATM – 19/04/11

Completed the target after the 18:15, bet on six races with six winners. Again we had more races that we would have won on, but the price went below 1.30.

P/L of  2.35 points

Bank = 143.84 points.

———————————————————————————————–

Day 27 – Betfair ATM – 20/04/11

Completed the target after the 16:50, bet on five races with five winners for an early finish.To show how volatile the in running markets can be one horse was trading @6.0 to place and in less than 1oo yards was trading @1.15 to place and actually won the race. Without pictures (even slow ones) I do not see how you could have chosen that horse.

P/L of  2.27 points

Bank = 146.11 points.

————————————————————————————————–

Day 28 – Betfair ATM – 21/04/11

With the crash on Betfair and only a few races that met the rules only had two bets , but both won. The last race at Ludlow was an example of learning the running style of the horses. The fav drifted from 8/11-11/10 and went to 1.85 in the place market before easily winning the race.

P/L of  1.26 points

Bank = 147.37 points.

————————————————————————————————-

Day 29 – Betfair ATM – 23/04/11

Some good sport today with football and the racing, over the day had five winning bets and easily made the target with races to spare.

P/L of  2.52points

Bank = 149.89 points.

———————————————————————————————-

Day 30 – Betfair ATM – 24/04/11

Very slow start with small fields but eventually had five winning bets and easily made the target with a few  races to spare.

P/L of  2.71 points

Bank = 152.60 points.

————————————————————————————————

Day 31 – Betfair ATM – 25/04/11

Lots of racing today had six winning bets spread over the afternoon. Could have bet on at least twelve races.

P/L of  2.44 points

Bank = 154.84 points.

————————————————————————————————-

Lots of racing today with very small fields eventually had five bets for five winning bets and completed target in the evening.

P/L of  2.57 points

Bank = 157.41 points.

————————————————————————————————-

Day 33 – Betfair ATM – 27/04/11

Lots of racing today with plenty of races that met the rules. Bet on seven races with six winners and one loser for a losing day. The losing race was disappointing as it when to 1.05 in the place market then just stopped to finish 5th.

P/L of  -2.42 points

Bank = 154.99 points.

———————————————————————————————

Day 34 – Betfair ATM – 28/04/11

Lots of racing today with plenty of races that met the rules. Bet on six races with six winners for a winning day. Two races I did not bet in as the price was too low had two horses that reached 1.01 in the place market and did not place. Another race had three horses come down at the same hurdle, perhaps saver bets are necessary to preserve the stake.

P/L of   2. 72 points

Bank = 157.71 points.

————————————————————————————————

Day 35 – Betfair ATM – 29/04/11

Bet on five races with five winners for a winning day. Early finish with target met by 18:00.Lots of races to choose from.

Bank = 159.97 points.

Bank = 162.28 points.

————————————————————————————————

Day 37 – Betfair ATM – 30/04/11

Bet on five races with five winners for a winning day. Plenty of racing today and easily met target.

P/L of   2. 31 points

Bank = 162.28 points.

———————————————————————————————

Day 38- Betfair ATM – 01/05/11

Bet on three races with two winners  and one loser for a losing day. Once again the loser was fourth and went to 1.05 in running.

P/L of  - 4. 90 points

Bank = 157.38 points.

—————————————————————————————————-

Day 39 – Betfair ATM – 02/05/11

Bet on five races with five winners for a winning day. Plenty of racing today and easily met target.

P/L of   2. 32 points

Bank = 159.70 points.

———————————————————————————————–

Day 40 – Betfair ATM – 03/05/11

Some poor racing today with small fields Bet on five races with five winners for a winning day, with two races giving matches right on the lower limit.

P/L of   2. 03 points

Bank = 161.73 points.

———————————————————————————————

Day 41 – Betfair ATM – 04/05/11

Some strange betting today got matched on my first 4 bets to reach my target.The in play prices  were jumping in and out of range.

P/L of   2. 07 points

Bank = 163.80 points.

————————————————————————————————

Day 42 – Betfair ATM – 05/05/11

Lots of racing that met the rules and easily obtained the target with 5 winning bets.

P/L of   2. 34 points

Bank = 166.14 points.

————————————————————————————————

Day 43 – Betfair ATM – 06/05/11

As with yesterday lots of racing that met the rules and easily obtained the target with 5 winning bets. Could have bet on more racing if I had continued to the end of the evening racing.

P/L of   2. 21 points

Bank = 168.35 points.

—————————————————————————————————

Day 44 – Betfair ATM – 07/05/11

Saturday always has to much racing with races overlapping all the time. Completed a winning day with five bets to obtain my target.

P/L of   2. 13 points

Bank = 170.46 points.

———————————————————————————————–

Day 45 – Betfair ATM – 08/05/11

Completed the last day of the review with a winning day with five bets to obtain my target.Also managed to complete the five races before the football started

P/L of   2. 17 points

Bank = 172.63 points.

————————————————————————————————–

After 45 days how as Betfair ATM performed.

Races 215 with 209 winners and only 6 losers for a profit of  72.63 points for an average of  0.34 points/race.

Made an average of  1.62 points/day would need to increase to about 7-8 races/ day to make 2 points/day.

As can be seen by these numbers a small but steady profit was obtained during the review period. This could be increased in two ways:-

1. Bet on more races.

2. Bet with larger stakes.

Or a combination of the two.

Betfair ATM is a method/system/strategy to be used in play running on the Betfair place markets.

It takes time with suggested software/hardware and requires the user to be at the computer all the time during placement of the bets. I do not believe that it can be automated.

Betfair ATM could easily be used as one portion of an in play portfolio on UK racing.

It does take some practice before regular profits will be obtained.I also prefer to watch all racing that I bet on but the author does not belive that it is necessary.

Some suggestions to improve strike rate and profit:-

1. Bet on races over 1 mile, do not bet on sprint races as the prices move to quickly.

2. All the race must be monitored not just the latter stages.

3. Do not bet in the last 2f of any race.

4. Do not bet before a fence/hurdle is to be jumped.

5. I prefer to bet in races where Betfair pay on three places and have 8-12 runners. Author bets on two place races but I find that these are harder to obtain over 90% strike rate

6 .Only have one bet in the race and do not go below the bottom price.

7. On the above results you could have placed a back bet on every race @ 1.10 as soon as your bet was matched and could have marginally increased the profit. I prefer not to do this when backing odds on.

————————————————————————————————

Befair ATM will help you make a profit but requires some work and practice. Only you can decide if the amount of time spent is worthwhile. I recommend that people try various software and set ups until one that they can use is found. You cannot read the Betfair ATM document and expect to make profits from day one, you will be required to does some ground work to make it work for you.

I believe that Betfair ATM can make a contribution to most people’s profits.

    This is a great review. The thing which would worry me would be when to place the bet. Is it harder for flat races ?

  2. AlexC says:

    It is necessary to have either two windows or two pages open at the same time to compare the prices.The flat racing moves quicker than National Hunt racing and the system rules provide guidleines on this. Sprint race prices change very quickly because of the nature of the race. I then place a bet using one click software ( Gruss, Betangel etc).I find that the normal interface is to slow to bet in running as the prices move very quickly. The system rules also provide guidance when betting on chases.

    [[ Comment edited to protect the system rules ]]

    As a general rule for both codes of racing I normally bet on races where There are only 4-5 horses below 10/1 and I also like to watch the racing , even though I use ATR/RUK. As all your bets are normally odds on it is better to bet a few races than rush and try to bet to many especially on a Saturday. You should also place your bets on horse that come down into the range and not on horses that drift up into the range as they started with a very low price. A price will reduce on a horse running well but move out on one running poorly. This system will not make you rich overnight but will generate small steady profits.

    One point that might be useful is to put a low lay at 1.10 to cover your stake (I prefer not to cover) but in all the losing races that I have had all would have been matched at 1.10 or below. After the races on Sunday I will give a half way review with some suggestions.Sorry if the answer is long.

  3. Peter says:

    Thanks Alex, it looks like there maybe some milage in this strategy !

  4. Peter says:

    Alex

    say you were using £100 stakes. Would there be enough liquidity in the market to get those matched at 1.10 or below ?

  5. AlexC says:

    When the odds get below 1.10 it is difficult to get money matched for winning bets. Most of the sub 1.10 are placed at the start of the race and you would not be at the front of the queue. Certainly it is possible to get £20-30 matched in the place markets but not in the last 2f.. For cover bets you are normally giving the money away.

  6. Peter says:

    Sorry Alex I should have said

    When I place my back bet between 1.3-1.5 would it be possible to get £100 matched. Obviously when the odds drop to 1.10 , that is when I’d trade the bet out

  7. Nat says:

    Hi Alex,

    Do you follow those rules that you state in Day 24 post? I managed to find only one race that would satisfy them yesterday. What races did you bet on?

  8. AlexC says:

    As a general guide I try to bet on races that allow three places for laying. The longer the distance the easier it is to get a match in the desired range. Each race because of the way in which it is run will change the selection choice for the bet. I normally look at how the race is framed, how it will be run ( based on previous races) style of jockeys, all of which change the odds during the race. I have a minimum price that I will bet at and the actual price will depend on speed of match etc. I try to find about five races to bet on to try and reach a target of 2 points/day. The selection is based on a set of rules by Betfair ATM and will vary during the race.In most races you will have a choice of more than one selection for your bet.
